Doing a build and would like any feedback from ya'll I could get.
No pics yet have not really started just compiling parts.
Here is the run down:
FJ-40 Frame
Aqula 45 tub (no bed)
Dana 60 front and rear
Chevy diesel
SM465
NP295
My question
What leaf springs can I use. I am going to sping over and do a reversal while pushing the front springs and rear springs as far as I can front and back. I am not interested right know in any radical suspension setup (a;though I am very impressed with some of your setups....sweet). This will be my first build and I want to keep it kind of simple to build my knowledge and I have no intentions of making a straight rok crawler.
I want a spring that obviously will not be too springy or not springy enough. I plan on putting as lage a tire as will work????. I would, however, lower the tire size to allow for a better spring setup.
Any other suggestions input would be great. I have one restoration under the belt and now am wanting to build something from "crap" as my wife calls it. And yes she is refering to the Danas. :)

How much does that diesel engine weigh. If it's the old chevy, it's based off a small block and probably not that heavy.

Some folks use the factory fj40 springs for their spring over. Some use fj60 springs. This will require some trimming for 39.5" tires. I went with some 2.5" lift springs on mine and did the spring over at the same time. They have settled a bunch and I like the height with 44 inch boggers.

You need to go with a big tire to really use those axles the way they were meant to be abused.

Where in Georgia are you located?

JR

Northeast GA
Gainesville to be exact which is an hour north of the A T L.
I forgot to mention that I have no factory springs only the frame. Would 40 springs be good. Since I will have to aquire some I was wanting the "best" for my application. And yes I am going with an early model chevy deisel.
thanks
