First off, it was great to meet you guys this past weekend, and wheel a little bit with you. Sweet rigs, hopefully I can have mine down here sometime and go with you. You are a crazy but great group of guys, and I learned a lot about laser pointer modification, zilch bags, flaming drunk leprechauns, and what happens when you fall asleep around the campfire!!

Mark brought me a few parts, which is fantastic, but made me realize something - I do not have the socket wrench used for the spindle adjusting nuts!! Kind of hard to swap out your spindle when you don't have the proper tool... I used a channel lock to do the original wheel bearing swap as a trail fix to drive it the hour back from college to my house, but it wasn't a permanent job. Does anyone have one that I could borrow? If there is someplace that sells them, I will definitely go there, but CarQuest, NAPA, etc. don't carry ones that big. SOR sells them, but I won't get it in time, and I don't know if Toyota can get it in time. I'll call tomorrow morning, but it's doubtful if they can get it in time. Anyone between Louisville and Michigan happen to have one for loan or purchase? I will make it worth your while with your choice of payment (beer, gas money, cigars, etc.:hillbilly:)

I feel like an idiot but everyone has those moments. If anyone can help out, that would be spectacular. Thanks!

Brian

You're kidding me. I know the guys at both the CarQuest at home, and where I went to college quite well - they're both knowledgeable and a couple of my best friends work there, and they couldn't find it. Just the generic Toyota hub nut socket? Wow...

54mm or a 2 and1/8 standard if they still give you the stink eye. CarQuest actually has some 40 series parts available. Just scored a water pump for my 2F from them. They had it for me that afternoon. I have spotty luck with Napa on hard to find parts but they're a close second to CarQuest.

NAPA actually uses the same vendors that CarQuest uses, but CarQuest has more vendors in total. NAPA also charges more, from what I've found. I know it's a 54 mm, and will call tomorrow morning to find out if they can get it for me. Thanks guys!

If you are in a pinch, just do what the "professional" mechanics do....Use a hammer and a flat head screw driver. It does work though.

Hey Finewyn, if by chance you are doing this work up at home in New Era, it just so happens I am going to be in Pentwater this weekend. I would be glad to take my socket with me and you could run over to Pentwater and borrow it. I know this is just minutes from your parents place. I will get up there Friday evening about 8ish and heading home sometime on Monday. Let me know if this helps.

You can also buy a 2 1/8 standard at Sears. That is where I got mine.

Something to note - the nuts on the spindles that I got from Mark are only 50 mm!! I got a regular 2" socket for it, and called in the part to my hometown CarQuest just in case. I remember my nuts being 54 mm but for some reason these are 50... Am I missing something?

yeah you have smaller nuts compared to everyone else.

The two aren't interchangeable, are they? If that's the case, then did I get disc brake axle spindles instead of drum brake spindles? Or did I get the correct spindle that just has smaller nutz, but still will work? (smaller nuts work just as good, right?:o)

Thanks guys!

Hey Gappy, if you could bring that up just in case, that would be fantastic. The Shelby CarQuest can't get it till Monday, and there aren't any CarQuests around Louisville area. Unless there's a good CarQuest between here and Indianapolis that has one or could get one. I'll try there. Thanks!

I'll bring it along. If you need it call my cell 260-242-0509. We will be at Charles Mears SP in Pentwater right down on the water....I think site #28. I'll be the bald guy on a beach comber bike with fat white wall tires!!
I don't carry my cell too much while camping so you may have to leave me a message.

Thanks for the invite Tom. Ill see ya there.:flipoff2: Anyone else want to carpool with me??

Will the smaller nuts work with the drum brake axle spindles?

They have a distribution center close to the airport here in Indy. Pretty sure they'd have it.

Then there's a NAPA dist. center on the other side of the airport, just in case.
