I posted this in another thread, but I’m going to try here one a new one. The odometer was sticking on my ‘73 and after watching a great video from another member, i removed the odometer and cleaned it up. Seems to work fine. The issue i have is, did i some how mess up the speedometer? It seems like it ought to return to zero in a counter clockwise rotation.Speedometer video

Wow haven't Redi Kilowatt since I was a kid.
You shouldn't use a metal screwdriver as a pointer - you are scratching surface - some day it will rust there - plastic pointer please.

My guess is there is a pin that limits the needle travel in the counter clockwise direction. It appears that the pin is still there but the needle is on the wrong side. Take unit apart and place the needle on the other side of the pin. Spring pushes needle to zero (CCW) when not moving - the mechanism pushes needle to the speed when moving (CW).

Point taken about the pointer. The truck was my grandfather’s and now my 15yo grandson is trying to claim it from me. Not done with it yet

This was the problem. There is a small pin that easily slips under the stop when the retainer is removed. After the advice and walking away from the bench for the night it was obvious. Thanks all.

Well done - no damage. Being able to see properly is a big part of successful repairs/builds.

I stopped by the dollar store to get some more spring temple readers - they had none in any flavor

I'm going to go get some proscription computer glasses made.

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this. You found the issue though. There is a "stopper" that keeps the needle from going below 0 if the needle ends up on the wrong side it can only go backwards.
