it was too large...one more try after dipping in cold water for shrinkage :flipoff2:

JMAN let me know if yours looked like this or if looks ok in your opinion.

Nice pic!

I just replaced mine today. I found no need to loop back over the transfer case like the above pic. The hole in the floor hump is on the left side. I tired to minimize any tight bends. There was even a convenient place for a couple zip ties to hold the cable up away from the exhaust.

I should note I used a factory cable which worked fine even with the ToyBox installed between the transfer case and transmission. That moves the speedo attachment about 4.5 inches further back.

The old one was kinked and had a hole in the sheath. It was noisy and bounced around.

The new one is smooooooth. :)

i'll try the zip ties because it didn't work worth a shiite the way i got it rigged right now.

i think the big loop it has right now is causing the cable to turn erratically (sp).

in turn the speedometer needle is bouncing all over the place and seems to "top out" at about 35 mph. it is loud as all get out too.

thanks for the info

Patride, that's what mine looks like now and I have no problems. If yours is still wobbling, you might have a problem with the pastic gears in the trasnfer case extension housing--these are the little gears that turn the speedo cable, maybe they are starting to strip?

I had my previous one zip-tied to that ground wire you see in that second picture, and it quickly slipped onto the exhaust. Maybe you shouldn't listen to me--I fried a few cables before I got it right, but it didn't work for me until I got it in the postion you show in that last picture.

Good luck.

so that is the part that connects to the drive train and that the speedo cable screws into?

i am going to reroute it back along the exhaust area on the plate and see if that will hold with some strategically placed ties and see if that will hold up. when i had it that way before it didn't seem to wobble as much. would it possibly wobble because of lack of lube in the casing for the cable? i put the lube in there, but didn't use all of it.

just trying to brainstorm....i'll post after rerouting it.

thanks for the input JMAN

ok reconnected it a different way than before. ran it under the tranny along the skid plate.
there are some pretty convenient openings in the skid plate that allowed me to tie the cable to the skid plate itself. instead of using cable ties or zip ties i used lead solder "wire".
it has a melting point of 460F so i am guessing any heat produced by the engine, tranny or "radiant" heat coming from the exhaust would not get this hot enough to melt.

the only problem is the needle continues to wobble, but i give up at this point. i'll live with it. at least i have a general idea how "fast" i am going and my odometer is back in business which is more important to me.
