is there supposed to be a plastic gear inside my transfer case, that drives the speedo gear (metal) that drives the speedo cable? if so what's it called

is it plastic? cause i think i still got a steel one in there that looks like that, it's just gunked up with melted plastic...

86 is just the peice of metal that hold the drive gear assembly into the transfercase housing. The gear itself is nylon, with a metal shaft. (I just replaced mine)

i gotta look closer at mine then oops... i thpught that the gear was metal, and there was just gunk on it...

could a busted rear output shaft bearing cause this to melt... and could a busted rear diff pinion bearing, driven for long periods of time, trash the output shaft bearing? trying to CSI the transfer case meltdown
