Hi all.

I have been having trouble with my speedo cable now for a while. I have used 3 in 3 months. It turns out that it wasnt the cable at all, and in fact my drive gear.
Now I have replaced the drive gear, and put a brand new cable in. Its fine untill about 80kph, then it bounces around like it it did.

Is there anything else that is serviceable with these systems?

Thanks.

I've had good luck on other speedo and tachs buy taking them apart, cleaning, and lubing with synthetic grease. My current BJ70 speedo has just started the bouncing needle dance and I'll likely clean/relube it this summer....

Bouncing needle is generally in the speedo itself, not the cable or drive gear

Thanks fellas. Is that a replaceable part? Or would I need a whole new dash cluster?

FOR MY 1987 BJ70, THE PART NUMBER IS LISTED ON TOYOTA DIY PARTS SEARCH AS 83110-90K23.
DO NOT KNOW WHAT YEAR/MODEL YOU HAVE....
...AND DO NOT KNOW IF THESE ARE STILL AVAILABLE.

Hi again.

Thanks for that, I have a 1988 2H (HJ75). Where can I plug this part number in to cross reference?

I cant seem to get any results for that number?
Ill post a pic when I get a photo ;)

Looks like it fits a lot of models, so you may want to check with the wreckers

Thanks again! maybe its worth finding a whole cluster from the wreckers and just taking that assembly of the back?

What about Odometer reading though?

Hmm ok, I didnt think they could be reset? for legal reasons.

not sure about Australia, but vehicles over 10 years old are exempt from miles reporting in my state, so odometer means nothing

Has anyone experienced speedo "clicking?" I get a rapid clicking sound on occasion ~110 kph. The needle is fine, just trying to track the source of the noise down.
