I use Yellow Box. It’s around $100 for the plug and play version. Spot on at any speed. I just coated the plug connections with dielectric and stashed it between the fuel tank and skid plate. Not sure if it works on early 80’s.
 
Do the several correction methods mentioned above correct both speedometer and odometer?
