5/8 inch I believe. You can buy a spark plug socket that has a rubber grommet in it to make removal easier. Get a 6 inch extension and an extra 3 inch one for the no 6 plug.

They have specialized sockets that have magnets or rubber inserts that will pull the spark plug out with the socket. My Snap-on one is magnetized.

I use a Craftsman locking extension with a standard plug tool that has the rubber insert.
These extensions work very well for plugs or anywhere else you don't want to leave a socket.

Not entirely on topic, but this combination (pic) works well on the number 6 spark plug.

Note the wobble extension between the spark plug socket and the first normal extension. This combo puts the u-joint right where it works well (per the heater valve and valve cover) and the wobble extension takes the side pressure off the spark plug. All that stuff is Craftsman (IIRC), including the spark plug socket which fits easily in the hole and has the rubber grommet to help hold the plug.

I should try the one in the OEM toolkit
