on my 89' 4runner, there is a mount under the rear floor to mount my spare tire, i can't seem to figure out how to mount the wheel though. there is a chain and i guess it's for a little hoist or something, but i think i'm missing a part or two from it. can anyone help me out or clue me in to how to use it? Thanks!

There's a slot next to the license plate that you put the jack operating rod thru and spin the chain hoist counter clockwise, which lowers a cable with an end on it. The end goes in the center hub of the wheel. Raise it back up and away you go.

under the back seat is a jack and a long bar
the long bar goes into a little diamondish shape in the rear bumper slides into the chain lower.raising device, spin bar, chain lowers/raises.

when low enough lift the tire up a bit, pull the black bar in the centre of the rim so that the tire drop, reverse to put back in

this all assuming that the chain isnt seized which happens often and then you cut it all out and move the gas tank to the back and build a cage so you no longer bash the tank on rocks and puncture it and have to replace it. damn tank is so low!

OK, 1st do not look at my pic and think things dont look right, they dont.

I was lazy and put it where it is and cranked up the slack, to avoid rolling it up a mile.

If you do not have a piece that looks like that then your out of business.

If you do, then pass it through the center of the spare and put the two little nips in the holes and roller up

If you've got rust, you might be missing a big piece at the end of the chain, the piece that tntoyota is showing in that picture.

I jumped a railroad track one day (yeah, for fun, and you can get a little air if you're going fast enough), and heard a big thud. Thought it was my toolbox in the back, but later that week, I noticed my entire spare wheel and tire was gone. And somebody had already scavenged it off the track.

You can get a new lifter, chain, and bracket from Toyota. Or you can use this opportunity to get a cool tube bumper with tire carrier.

if you find out your missing parts gimme a holler, i took a complete tire mount off a frame i recycled, it was a truck but, i can't imagine they are much different
