In Ontario, travel for recreational purposes on Crown lands and waters is generally free and unrestricted. Generally, camping is allowed free on Crown land for up to 21 days, at any one site, per year except where posted. (To qualify as a separate site which can be occupied for an additional 21 days, a second camp site must be at least 100 metres from the first location occupied by that camper.)

Non-residents of Canada who are 18 years of age or older, except those using a camping unit rented from a commercial outfitter in Ontario, require a permit to camp on Crown lands north of the French and Mattawa rivers. (A camping unit is defined as equipment used for the purpose of outdoor accommodation and includes a tent, trailer, tent-trailer, recreational vehicle, camperback and any watercraft equipped for overnight accommodation.)

Where is the French and Mattawa river?

Crown Land Camping Permits are available from numerous fish and wildlife licence issuers and from the Ministry of Natural Resources district offices in northern Ontario. Cost of a Crown Land Camping Permit is $10 per person per day.

they must be somewhere other than where we go. The only major river near us is the Goulais.

Hey Timber, are you familiar with the Gitchee Gumee run in the fall, run by GLFWDA? I've gone a couple times (in my 4Runner), Blueberry is the base for that trip as well.
I'm interested in going, I'll monitor the thread but most likely I'll end up scabbing out because I'll be too lazy to haul azz from Chicago. But, if I'm free on the weekend you pick, and the mood strikes me... Watchout! :)
Um. what am I saying, I've already raised the idea with my local redneck club of a KY ORV park trip in June right after school's out... No way I'll have the ambition for two big road trips in a month's time... Or will I? :)

I have heard about GG and seen a few good trail reports online with some great pics. Not sure where it is excatly?

This trail might be more than just a mild trail run, not sure.

I've done GG the last two years. My local club spent many weekends exploring the area looking for trails to do for GG.

The trail I have in mind is moderate and shouldn't be too hard for the guys who have responded.

I'm thinking April 30 or May 7

April 30 works best for me.

The weekend of May 7th and 8th would be ok though.
Bummer!!!

I'll be out of town the next week starting on Monday, May 9th, so this weekend is out for me.

Plus, May 8th is Mothers Day. Gotta' keep the boss happy. :D :D :D

So it looks like April 30

Gonna have to go with Fochdog on this one. Mrs Cruiser wants to camp in early May and the Mother's day thing.

However, my club goes to Canada a lot in the summer, so I will keep you guys in the loop.

Okay...so April 30!

Who else is in?

We'll get to the Where and When details next.

later!

Does anybody want to wheel on that Friday, or just Saturday? I'll probably go up on Friday. Blueberry campground should be open.

The campground web site states they are open starting in Mid-May.

http://www.onblueberryhill.com/

I just e-mailed them to find out the exact date. When I hear back I will forward info.

Later

Yep that's the place! I guess we can just camp out on the trail!

Looks like they will be pretty flexible.

Officially we open for the long week end in May. However there is always
somebody here and we had accepted campers from April on.

What are you looking at? Traveling through or long term?

Hey guys, April 16? More likely to have snow on the trail. Might be a better date to get both Fochdog and UPcruiser there!

It looks like April 16th will work for me.

I would plan to drive the afternoon of the 15th to Blueberry Campground.

Haven't heard back from UPcruiser yet. I'll let you know when he does.
