Hi all.
Wanted to give you all some interesting facts post fuel filter change and front brake job.
I have gained, on average, an additional 2-3 mpg at every fill up. I was averaging around 20-21 mpg before and now I am at 23-23.5 mpg.
As well, I noticed that I did not have to downshift as much when going through the mountain pass between TN and KY i.e. there is more power in 5th gear at 3k rpm's.
The front calipers had a good amount of grime/rust on the pad pins and the rotor did not turn 100% freely.
I would think the new filter is the cause of much of the gains but I also know that the freeing of any type of drag on the front helped too.
I consider a 3mpg hike on the highway pretty significant-especially for a maint item and not a modification. That gives me an additional 50 miles to a tank.
Not to bore you with math BUT in 1200 miles (4 weeks or less for me) the $20.00 filter will be paid for with the gas savings. Pretty damn cool. Cost went from 12.5 cents a mile to 10.9. In a year...I will save 250.00 dollars which cuts my insurance bill in more than half.
Anyway, thought I would share and highlight the importance of having those two items in top shape.
