alright guys I know a lot of you have done your homework when it comes to Toyota trucks and I was wondering if you could help me out.

here are my vehicle requirements:

-must be a Toyota truck
-must have four doors with two rows of seats and rear cargo area.

here's where things get hard:

-must get 20+ MPG preferably diesel
-if gas engine, must have 150k miles on it or less
-it can be 2WD, 4WD doesn't really matter

and it all has to cost less than $2500

here's an example: I found a 1992 4runner on CL for $950 OBO and a 1981 diesel camper truck (wouldn't specify model) on CL for $1600 OBO.

do I yank all the diesel internals off the camper and throw them in the 4runner? do I put the 4runner body on the camper?

or how about this, in the 80's Toyota sold cab-chassis trucks. are there any after market crew cabs out there?

I know a good option would be a first or second generation 4runner with a 22RE motor and a 5 speed. but they're pretty hard to find where I live.

another thing is that I'm located in VA and some things are very limited out here in comparison to the west coast and CO.

I know it may sound a little crazy but maybe you guys are aware of some options out there.

thanks a lot for any help or suggestions.

4 doors didn't come around until the late second-gen 4Runner.
As to that diesel: no, I cannot recomend it. The only Toy Diesels in The States were imported before 84, and their light diesles (the L series) had some serious reliability issues, combine that with severly limited availability of parts becomes a recipe for unpleasantness.

The "HardCore Corner" doesn't seem to be the correct place to post this kind of question.

yeah. This is a 79-95, or 95+ tech question.

just get a welder and a bunch of steel.

Then get a pair of axles with gears and lockers and blingtanium shafts.

Then get an LS engine and an Atlas.

Then get 4 mastercraft seats.

Then just put it all together.

Done, 4 seater wheeler.

oh sorry I didnt see the mileage part, or the cheapass part, or the 4 door part, or the everything for nothing part.

Just thought you wanted a hardcore 4 seater.

right I know it's a nothing budget compared to some of the things that get done here like "the conquistidore" was just wondering if anyone knows of where I could find anything like in the links I posted.
