Did a one nighter this past weekend in the Angeles National Forest. Good times and great weather.

So, do you all think it would be wise to put chains on the trailer. Now that I have a trailer, I've been thinking about that. Most big rig jack knifes on the highway occur when they hit the brakes and the trailer tires slide on slick roads and swing around ahead of the cab. Same thing for us. Imagine coming down a mountain road (ie home from Big Bear) and it's icy. It seems the trailer could slide around ahead of the tow vehicle or at least be at risk for lateral slides, especially at the end of a trip when the trailer has lost the weight of the consumables. Any thought?

Sorry to hijack - great pic so seemed like a good opportunity to ask this question.

Actually yes. And i had a pair lined up but it fell through. If it was serious ice i'd do a pair on the cruiser and a pair on the trailer. However, airing down and turning the trailer brakes OFF was key on this trip. I used engine breaking almost the entire way down the icy trail.

Per Martyn at Adventure Trailer:

The trailers usually do well in snow as they will follow the compacted path that the vehicle has made.

Deflate the tires if you start to get bogged down in the snow, that will give you some flotation.

Down hill keep the speed under control, put the brake controller to zero and operate the trailer brakes independent of the vehicles using the hand slide. Many times you get a skid on the trailer because the brakes have locked up the rotation of the wheels so gentle hand application can remedy this.

I can tell you right now that when the trailer and truck were sliding backwards it was a damn scary position to be in. That's why i immediately took the recovery strap and got out of that spot.

nice!

those chains holding up OK offroad?
