HEY GUYS! JUST PICKED UP MY FORST FJ55. THE MOTOR RUNS GREAT BUT WHEN IDLING THERE IS A DEFINITE RASP TO THE MOTOR. IM USED TO A VERY SMOOTH IDLE BUT THIS ONE IS A BIT TOO BUMPY FOR MY LIKING. IT ALMOST ACTS LIKE IT HAS A BURNED VALVE, BUT COMPRESSION TESTS DO NOT SUPPORT THIS THEORY. THE MOTOR HAS ALL THE ORIGINAL SMOG EQUIPMENT AND ONLY 50k ON THE ODOMETER. COULD THE SMOG PUMP BE CAUSING THE RASPYNESS? I LOOKED AT A FJ60 AND IT HAD A VERY SIMILAR IDLE QUALITY. THE OWNER TOLD ME IT WAS CAUSED BY THE AIR INJECTION TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT.

stop yelling.:flipoff2:. hello. Please post pictures of your engine bay up so we can see what "stock" smog gear you has. Have you done a vacuum check? Also how fast is it idling? What is the timing set at? When were the valves last adjusted? Sorry to answer you questions w questions. juss tryin to hep

Sorry for the bostrous nature of my post. :) I just got the car home and have not had a chance to really play with anythong. These are great questions. I will get the info up here as soon as i can. This is the first cruiser ive had with any smog equipment on it. My other trucks had rochester carbs and headers. All this stock stuff in new to me.
