John, I've said do it before and I say it again. If you don't want to do the install yourself, any competent automotive glass shop can do it and most should be able to do it well for not much money. An hour labor or so and minimal shop supplies. You and Beau will both dig the difference the sliders make to ventilation in all sorts of different ways. Post lots of pics when you do! :D  :D

Has anyone intalled the rear sliding windows that SOR sells? I am thinking about installing some in my 85 fj60 so my dogs can peer out without being in the backseat. However, I would like to get y'alls opinion before I jump.

Thanks

Finally got my SOR aftermarket rear sliding windows(with screens) installed. I followed the directions and they fit, just barely, but they fit and don't leak. The air flow is great and no more tornado effect with windows down.Who knew the rear windows came out so easily?(5 min)
They could be a tighter fit IMHO.
As far as security goes, a small child would have a hard time fitting through the window and there is no door locks within reach.Keep tools/guns or whatever outta arms reach.
If someone wants into your truck the lock cylinders or front windows would be easier and quicker access to dash/console/ignition.

I'm glad yours fit, on both sides of mine one corner still showed daylight. SOR was cool and took them back after I had drilled them and installed them.

Interesting, Fergus. You seem to be one of the few folks around with non-leaking SOR sliders. :)

How much smashing of the truck's body did you have to do to make them fit? Also, how hard does it look to be to replace a screen?

Hard rubber mallet did the smashing without paint damage.I used a block of wood for a straight edge and smashed the pinch weld until it was as "straight" as possible.I think you could easily bend it back for OEM windows again if necessary. The aluminum slider frame does bend to shape a little too and that seems to keep the windows tighter.
The screens seem too been installed with a standard type of welting, should be able to fix without removing window.

I put SOR's aftermarket sliders in over a year ago. No leaks. No gaps. But, installation is a major bitch. I ended up using a combination of hammers, blocks of wood, several different size large vise grips, channel locks and I can't remember what else to get the metal pinch weld straight. (The factory window has a slight convex curve, the aftermarket windows are flat. You have to make the pinch weld flat or they won't fit well.) I don't think it could be rebent to refit factory windows if necessary, so I hope mine never get broken. That said, I think they are well worth it. The improvement in airflow is awesome. My dogs love it, and the screens discourage them from jumping out. If you carry dogs in the back, I'd strongly recommend them. Without the dogs, maybe not.
The sliders SOR sells for the FJ40 are a perfect fit, installation couldn't be easier and were so great I got them for my FJ60, and was surprised but the difficulty of installation. One complaint was each window was short one pair of screws for the number of holes. They really could do better than that.
