Can anyone tell me the difference between the 8/80-4/85 and the 4/85-8/87 slave cyl for a 60 ? A guy I work with has a 62 that was converted to a manuel trans a while back and now he needs to replace the slave cyl.

Thanks, Tom

The earlier slave has an external return spring that keeps the pressure from the clutch fork on the end of the slave. It also has a manual adjustment on the pushrod for the slave. The later one has an internal spring that pushes outward, and keeps constant pressure on the clutch fork. It is the one that we use in our 5spd swaps because it is somewhat self-adjusting, and takes a lot of the guess work out of it, and seems to skirt other shift problems. You can put it on earlier trucks, but you need to trim the pushrod to fit. There might be a difference in the fitting(o ring vs flare) where the flexible line meets the clutch. I can't remember if that's the same or not. Here is a (crappy) picture of the later slave.

Thanks Ya'll (Slave Cylinder for American Manual FJ62)

Thanks for the help guys...

Just an FYI, it appears to be the older of the two with external re-coil spring and fully-threaded slave rod. Glad to of looked into this prior to just ordering the one shown in the photo above... shop grinders arent easy to come by in these parts...

Nice rig, mine looks very similar! Let's all be happy that Toyota was always ahead of its time, indicative by the fact that the slave cylinder is located on the outside of the tranny and not internally! Same thing on my '00 Tacoma

Maybe off topic but have no other avenue to post in. I have an 86 FJ60 with the later of the two slaves. Bleed the slave fill the reservoir and only about a day later it is time to re bleed. WTF. Any ideas guys? Drain fluid and replace? No leaks in the system that I can see
Thanks
Chris
