Sorry i missed the first meeting, wife not feeling to good.

I am interested in what you guys think about this.

There is a guy on ih8mud selling a kaymar rear bumper with dual pivots, but no tire or jerry can carriers, just bumper. i believe kaymar was bought out or went out of business. i would need to make a tire carrier for it. i dont believe the kaymar swing away carriers would hold a 36 in tire and i don't know if they are still available. he wants $750 for it. brand new it is around $1200. i like this bumper because it is the only one that is rated to tow (5000lb). you guys think i should buy it? :hhmm:

I am getting some better pics from him tomorrow. it looks pretty good, minor dents and scratches. i just need to find a part to match the spindle for the swing out tire carrier. slee offroad used to sell em now i don't see em on the website. i have seen diy kits on iron pig offroad but i am not sure it would match up. are spindles universal?

Call Lance or Cam at Iron Pig and just tell em what you've got. You could also call Christo Slee and he sould be able to steer you the right way. I think that bumper Greg just bought is a Kaymar. He'll chime in I'm sure.

Later,

Greg bought my bumper which was a Kaymar. Where did you hear they were going out of business? This would be very bad news.

They are good bumpers, I would have kept mine if I had not needed the money. They are not the best for departure angles however, at least on the 60 series. But I think they are one of the better looking rear bumpers out there IMO and can be very functional.

i agree that they don't have the best departure angles. cure for that is bigger tires ! i heard that they were going out of business from a thread from christo slee. now i am hearing that they are being bought out ?? so now i am not sure.

If I were building an expedition rig.... I'd be on that bumper for price even without pics! Nothing a rattle can can't fix. BUY IT.

I'm very pleased with mine. A buddy on mud is machining spindles for me so that I can build my own swing out(s).

On the departure angle, I have a big thick piece of angle iron connecting the frame from one side to the other. It was on there when I bought the truck, as part of the reciever hitch. I'm used to draging it over rocks. I left it there, as protection for the bumper. IMO the kaymar isn't sturdy enough to drop the weight of a truck on it all the time, so the angle iron protects it in that way.

Greg will be quite the swinger!

Any pics? i was thinking about tucking it in closer to body some how.

I did decide to get the kaymar bumper. :bounce: mainly because of the tow rating. i got a tire carrier coming as well. its a kaymar but a different style . i will have to modify it to carry a 36 in tire.

My 35 spare fits fine back there.

FYI, there's a fairly stock sammy at the christmas tree farm in florence for $2K.
