Just posted in 100 series tech, but remembered the AZ club. lol

2004 LC, bought a couple of months ago, has recently been having intermittent issues with ignition coil codes thrown. An independent shop told me they believed it was an ECM or PCM issue due to the lack of pattern in oscilloscope data and no other issues found. Toyota tech then couldn't find anything wrong with it, he believed it could have possibly been tuned, but couldn't verify. He didn't want to take the whole thing apart and told me he thinks it's a wiring harness issue.

Long story short, I think it's not properly diagnosed, and I need recommendations for someone in Arizona or the southwest who specializes in electrical gremlins.

Call Mike, if he wasn't the guy you already talked to. (602) 920-1782

Indie shop. 100 series driver. Smart.

Misfire codes? Did they “move” the coil packs? We have been seeing some older trucks with weird harness issues lately.

No misfires. Had one weird O2 Sensor bank 1 code. But the coil packs got moved, and there was no change in the codes, then moved again, and the codes changed. Really confusing stuff, man. No rhyme or reason, no patterns.

Sounds like packs are suspect.

Yeah, however, the oscilloscope data showed no repetition, and the tech told me the easiest thing would be to replace all 8 packs, but that's also 1k+ in parts alone, and there's no guarantee, as this is super intermittent.

Get a friend to loan you his (known working) packs for a test.

Steven at road runner wrench is a damn wizard with electrical issues and he’s reasonably priced.
