Setting up an 87 ifs 4Runner for trails

I never had the intention to start wheeling my 4Runner because it was just a cool daily driver but then I had it on a lift to fix the rusted gas line. Well the driver side floor pan is also significantly rusted away so all my care went out the window.

So with that i grabbed a set of used trail gear rock sliders for 75$ and swapped over to a set of 33x12.5s no lift yet but i might change my mind. They hit what little is left of the pinch weld but I'll beat that in.

My main goal is just protecting the truck. Almost everything I've ever broke on a trail so far has been because of rocks getting where they shouldn't of. I looked for skid plates for a little and couldn't find any like I want so I will end up making one. Ideally ending with a fairly flat bottom so I don't have to worry much.
 
Well because of the lack of info I could find in my process fo redoing the feed line of my 1st gen 4 runner I figured I'd include some of the stuff I did.

I used an-6 line to fix the rusted line, it was almost 100$ for just the soft line from the tank and nobody sells the hard lines so for 72$ I got the an lines.
18in of an-6 hose
An-6 45° fitting
An-6 to 5/16 (to connect to the hard feed line)
An-6 male to m14x1.5 inverted flare (m14x1.5 is the output of the fuel pump hanger)
An-6 straight fitting

If I was going to redo it I would use a shorter bit of line and two 45° fittings one for each side and replace the entire fuel pump hanger assembly

another thing I couldn't find much on is return vs vent hose. Blue is vent and red is return.
26in of 1/4in fuel line to replace the soft line from the tank to the body.

Anyway all in all very easy. I like the simplicity of the an lines although much bigger than oem they are very easy to route and cheaper. If I was going to redo the whole feed line I would do hard line and an line to replace the soft lines but just for a patch an is super nice
 
Well with trying to run off-road more and driving further with more weight than typical it's come to my attention just how low my 22re is on power, I was previously on the assumption that it was just a old wore out 4cyl (208k miles). Tops out around 65 with 33s and I'm in 4/3rd for a 8% grade.

Anyway I'm on the hunt for where my power has gone to. First is compression test.

I could only get those two spark plugs out... soaking the other two now. Good compression but bad looking spark plugs.

I had a similar situation with my Miata Low on power and I had just assumed old slow 4 cylinder as well but it was actually a whole tooth off on timing. I'll have to find out how to check on the 22re.

Waiting on spark plugs to come out then will keep hunting, if anyone has any suggestions on where to look I'd appreciate it

Two of the lobes have worn away! Shoutout to the guy on facebook for mentioning it could wear away. I have little interest in going through the top end and doing this all "properly" so tomorrow I'll be going through some of dads Toyota parts till I find another 22re to rob the cam out of probably along with the rocker assembly. Check your cams I guess
