Serious Gas Tank Pressure!

From what Beno and I discussed the canister and system recycle vapor on "Cold Start-Ups"... After we have been wheeling in the heat and dealing with elevation changes the canister wont / can't hold the vapor and it will pressurize in the tank and you'll still smell vapor as its purged out of the canister. This is even with a new VC-120 or equivalent.

What I've done is to release the gas cap every few hours and it eliminated the fuel smell. Otherwise do what Ryan did and remove the canister and allow it to vent all the time. I'm all for saving the environment, but even after I installed a new canister it still vents when wheeling so whats the point?

It did however fix the pressure problem during normal driving. No more tank pressure at the pumps so I guess I'll keep it and just vent the tank when I stop for a break.

Best,

John

If you vent to atmosphere wont that cause a fire hazard from the fumes?
Wont you still smell the fumes?

Thats what I liked about the OEM setup... The vent went into the frame rail.

I suppose if you just use an inline filter you could run the line into the same spot in the frame??

I do not notice any gas smell, in the what did you do this weekend thread, someone was persistent that I was going to burn down my cruiser from venting to atmosphere.

I have seen many older threads with people removing the canister without reports of fires.

I do not expect to put my canister back in, I may add a bigger filter with some charcoal if I park my truck inside in the future.
