Anyone planning on this one? Curious what the general consensus on the route are- and plans for day/or overnight trip. With Cottonwood pass closed, the trip will have to go through Tin Cup to Taylor Pass, or over Independence. Either would be a pretty long day trip. Last year Sam and Sandy stayed overnight, while my buddy Rodney and I drove down Taylor, out Cottonwood, and home after midnight.

Thoughts?

My wife and I are new here with our 97 and would be interested, need to research these trails to see if we'd be able to run them in our mostly stock truck. We'd also be open to camping if it made the trip work better.

I don't remember any spots on Pearl that were more than a stock, high clearance 4x4 could handle.
Taylor Pass is another story, it is a rather challenging trail. It can be done in a stock vehicle, with careful spotting, and a support vehicle with a winch and tow strap. I have never been up montezuma basin.
