Got approved for press credentials at SEMA in Vegas Oct./Nov. and looking to take some of the state's unpaved roads on the way down, at the very least to Berlin/Ichthyosaur, camping along the way, and probably while I'm down there. At this point probably going solo. Any advice/tips on what to have for emergencies, easy trails, camping spots, etc.?

Also, looking to get back to becoming a participating club member again (work is overrated). I volunteered to at least help with some copy for the BBCNN web site months ago. Was wondering if there'd been any more discussion on where the club is going with that, and what's needed on the copy writing front?

Oh, and beached my FJC at the Oregon dunes near Florence a while back. Was making a run up the dune to get out before a high tide. Got over the hump on the fifth attempt!
That was a great day.

Looks like a great trip to Ore.

Check out the Central Nevada trip thread for ideas on where to camp etc.
We have taken the Silver Peak road which bypasses Tonapah. It's is good dirt road, no challenges. And the town of Silver Peak is interesting, in a company mining town kind of way.

That road comes out near Gold Field, you could back track to Tonapah and cut east to the ET highway. I've been Jonseing to explore tha area north of Rachel called Reveille, check that out and post some pictures. :grinpimp:

South from ther you go through an area of warm springs and eventually wind up near Ash Meadows. The Pharanaget wildlife refuge is really pretty and offes a lot of chances to photograph Wildelife.

If you have big Cajones you can take dirt roads from there to the Hidden Forest in the Sheep Mountain Range. The exit from this road is near Fossile Ridge North of Las Vegas. Not I would do with just one rig.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Yes we still need some copy for the web site.
