From an lc200 FB page.

Is this supposed to change the shift points? I've never noticed different shift points when using "S"port mode and ECT PWR, but maybe they are different when in ECO mode?

The shift pattern looks reversed like it's from a RHD vehicle. I wonder if this applies to US-spec vehicles

Seems like nothing more than letting you know there’s shortcut to setting your tallest gear at 6 in one long press of the lever....rather than several as it counts up to 6.

**One benefit I do see that I hadn’t thought of is...
—Driving in S with all gears available behaves just like D...except that it lets you be just one click from forcing a downshift from over-drive (6) to 5th.

Otherwise...if you aren’t already in S...then when you want to down shift to 5th, you actually CAN’T do that without first being defaulted into 4th when you shove it over to S mode.

So... I think it’s a nice reminder of how leaving it in S is just like D with a full range of gears...but way of keeping high-speed downshifting at the ready without always being forced into 4th gear initially.

I don’t know.
I don’t see anything on that page about any reprogramming, so thinking it’s the above little trick and no more.

@Markuson Smart. I couldn't see any purpose for this otherwise. I'll try to see if this works on the 8sp.

However, there should be no braking, engine or otherwise, on I 70 unless somebody is in your way. :deadhorse:

Hehe about no braking on I70... :hillbilly:
Its just that if you have to stay behind someone coming down (narrower East direction into Denver where traffic can be fast but heavy) I swear that’s like brake-smoke central. With 35’s, OEM brakes and super-heavy, you get in the downshift habit pretty quickly. :crybaby::steer:

It was a service campaign for early Aussie VDJ’s which were reluctant to shift into, or hold 6th gear around 100km/h. Customers who complained were given this software update which supposedly fixed the issue. It also potentially made the vehicle not strictly emission compliant, which is why I think the “dieselgate” style workaround was implemented.

You think?

If it only holds the setting until you turn off the engine...that doesn’t sound like a software update.

Sounds more like Toyota was just making sure blokes understood that S-mode defaults to a 4th gear top end unless you tell it otherwise...and how to tell it otherwise.

But meh... :meh: Toyota occasionally does funny things...so who knows.
