Is this a thing? “Junior” has an ‘07 and it’s in limp mode and dealer is quoting him $5,300 arctic pesos to replace the system. I’m not an expert by any stretch on these emissions systems, but I would think there must be an option to delete it, no? I don’t have the codes it’s throwing, but if that would help I can get him to find out. He’s not very mechanical, and is 4.5 hours away so I’m trying to troubleshoot via text. Which is about as useful as it sounds:bang:

Yes. Google "Tundra secondary air injection bypass kit". Costs about 1/10 arctic pesos to remove it than to fix it.

You’ll need to do your due diligence regarding legality of installing this kit.
Dying in a frozen wasteland because of the failed eco-aid in truck is legal, but fixing your truck to prevent that from happening again is not. Akin to burning two quarts of oil every thousand miles is OK with eco-crowd, but having high-tension piston rings and zero top ups in between oil changes is big NO. Driving the same truck 20-30 years is very bad for nature, while scraping a 2-3 years old truck and then paying for a new one being manufactured is fine.

Yeah, I don’t disagree with you. The secondary air still works on my truck but I’ll be installing the bypass when it stops working.

What year? Shortly after Toyota realized the problem and fixed software in engine computer. Now every time the engine is stopped the pump runs for a couple of seconds to dry the pump out. It basically never dies of corrosion now, like it used to do.

If it ever dies in my 2019 or 2022, I know what route I'll be taking ;)

Mine’s an ‘05 but the OP’s son drives an ‘07.
