I dunno...I had a Jetta about 10 years ago. I drove my Triumph Spitfire for nearly 3 years as a DD, kept the VW for about 6 months. I really liked the car, loved the body style, but the transaxle had problems, the front end made a 'thump' noise, the electrics started screwing up and, the biggest thing? The locks were "power locks" - but they were driven by an air compressor in the trunk. A little odd.

I chauffered one of my best friends back and forth to the VW Dealer 6 times last year for Injection/Fuel system problems on his Passat.

Have another friend with a Jetta (5Spd manual) and it's run great for 85K. Depends on how you take care of them I guess.


I've had an 01 Civic for 3 years and it's been awesome.

are the dimensions across the top, gutter to gutter, the same on the 80 series as the 60's ?
im looking at perhaps a late 60 series, but im NOT giving up my arb/tradesman roof rack
