I won a small victory in the search for some NAGGING and EXPENSIVE parts for the Vortec today.
Some of you know that I had a few little, yet vital part absent from my 5.3 purchase that are extremely expensive from the STEALER, and hard to come by in the wrecking yards. Ive been calling Reno auto wreckers for the past month or so, and they have had an empty core pile for some time.
Today, I decided to drop in just in case they were holding out, and it just so happened that they DID have a 5.3 with all the little crap that I needed, AAAAAND since they are getting to know me there, they HOOKED ME UP with a great price for all of it. I got a complete intake manifold, the whole EGR assy. and a flywheel for 150 bucks.
However, the intake is a lil on the grimy side, so I was wondering if anyone had any tricks on CLEANING the INSIDE of the intake manifold.
Im also concerned about the injectors...is there any place in town that can bench test/ clean injectors, or a way to do it myself?

Thanks,

Keith

I used brake cleaner and bottle brushes on the intake of my lexus when I did the head gasket. That was aluminum, so I would make sure you can use it on a plastic manifold. I used a local place to do the injector cleaning on my LX, info below.

Also I found an injector cleaning tip after I spent money on mine, use an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. If you can find one cheap, they supposedly work as well as what the shops use (which is just an automotive version of the same thing). They just won't be matched for flow.

EDIT: I found it. That is the place I used, again not sure if they are still open.

I had the injectors cleaned and flowed locally and it ended up costing me more than if I had sent mine in on an exchange. I am not sure if the shop I used is still in business and I gave the guy that bought my LX the receipt. I will have to look and see if I can find the name.

Well the jewlery cleaner tip sounds pretty good.
Ill have to check into that. I priced out new injectors...OUCH! 700-900 depending on what brand.
I started some cleaning today with brake cleaner, just on the mating surfaces, and it seemed to be okay. The original intake is MUCH cleaner, which makes me more confidant that the mileage (48K) is true. However, there are some pieces broken off, so Ill end up using the one I just got.
Im trying to get all the top end stuff tied up before I pull the oil pan and see what that looks like in there. I got a tip from Iaintscared to check the main bearing caps while its out...I guess they DO come loose.

BTW, I was looking for the 700R/ 203 adapter...I already have it ON the 203. So now, All Ill need is someone to machine a 1/4 in off the input of the 203, and the 6 to 4 bolt adapter and THAT will be ready to mate to a tranny.

BABY STEPS!

Iaintscared just PM'd me this...Might be useful to others too!
Love the "home brew" methods!

See it always works out! As for cleaning I use oven cleaner on the metal stuff and then I use mean Green on the intake. You can submerge it, Steam clean it and scrub it really good then give it a coat of high temp paint to make it look brand new. USE NEW GASKETS on the install!!! To bench test the injectors buy some injector cleaner in the can fill a syringe with the cleaner hook a hose to the supply end of the injector and then apply 12v pwer to the injector. That is the home made way. If you take your injectors to a shop they can ultrasonic clean them for about 25-30 $ each. Plus they flow rate them once they are done. Still cheaper than buying new ones! Keep at it and it sounds like you are welll on the way to a VFJ-62!! :D

I wussed out and took the injectors in.
I called the joint that Jack posted. 11 bucks to have em cleaned and flow tested, and 23 to rebuild them if necessary.
Turns out that the guy I talked to also has a curiser that he too is prepping to do an LT1 V8 into...
Might have to pimp the BBCNN to him!:D

Just got my injectors back!
I ended up having them re built. The flows were all over the board, so I thought it best to have em do it.
BTW, that place is AWESOME and the folks there are VERY nice.
Theryre gonna clean my intake for me for no charge. I also found out that they have an engine tester there that they can load to see how its gonna run. Also, they can do the machining on my 203 input.

If you have any stuff that needs to be done, you might wanna check em out.

Its C&C Automotive Specialties 329-9974

I refered the guy with the crusier here, so he might pop up some time.
He had never heard of mud, TLCA, or BBCNN.
He races corvettes.
