Are the Oldsmobile 3.8 and the Buick 3.8 the same? I saw a couple of Olds 3.8's for sale around here and was just wondering. Thinking of doing a swap if they're the same.

i know that GM has used the same base 3.8 engine in all thier cars for years.

engines of the same year should be simalar.

early 3.8's used those dammed electric carburators. then moved to TBI. now they use MPI

i know that they are plagued with intake manifold to head coolant leaks.
but is not a bad engine, at all. infact it is one of thier better engines.

i know that dex cool is the worst coolant that has ever been on the market.

i am specialized in GM, like i am Toyota and moderen mopar vehichles.
so this is as much info off the top of my head i know.

you need to search olds and or buick forums.

BOP (Buick/Olds/Pontiac) all used same engine, etc.
Chevy was always different.
You need a 3.8 from a RWD car, not FWD (except from the 1st year or 2 of FWD's, which used the RWD engine).

I have an older odd-fire 3.8 in my Toy p/u. They seem to idle rougher and run a little hotter than the later even-fire engines.
