Sad news

Today we received some very sad news, Corey Jong is dead. Some of you don't know him, some only met him in passing and some were really good friends. We tried to contact as many people by phone that we knew were close to him so if you are finding this out through social media and were close, I'm very sorry. Corey was a great man and a close friend to a few of us, he was a very active member in the 4wdabc (which is where we met) and is responsible for helping building up the association to what it is today as well as organizing many great events like the Zajac Ranch burn victim kids' run and several others. Corey was never one to seek out recognition for what he did and he did a lot. He devoted a lot of his time to causes like SAR and the 4wdabc. He acted selflessly and went out of his way to help out anyone who needed it. He believe in the good in people. No matter how bad his day was he would always be able to greet you with a smile and truthfully ask you how you were and care about the answer. He was a good man, we need more like him and sadly we lost him. He is missed by his friends, he will be remembered, he is loved.
He was a member of our club for a while and went on the chinahead run in 2012, some of you likely met him on the clean ups and the builds.

Sad news indeed. I met Corey on a couple of runs, and he was always quick with a smile and a genuinely nice guy to be around. My prayers go out to his family and close friends.

Sad news indeed. I did not know Corey well but enjoyed his company greatly on the China head trip where he overcame some daunting electrical issues with good grace and a ready wit. It seemed he was facing some challenges at that time, but had a positive attitude and his presence added greatly to the 'experience' on that adventure. Good times. Truly a 'genuine' kind of person, as Mat so eloquently described.

Corey did not have any children of his own. That did not stop him from doing everything he could to improve the life of those kids that were dealt a bad card. He always believed in second and third chances and not giving up on anyone. I guess the only lessons to be learned are to never judge based by what is on the surface and to believe in the good in people.

Well said Matt. Kim, Please let Graham and Rachel know that if there is anything I can do, I am there. If they need support in paying for arrangements I would be more than honoured in helping out. I know it's not easy and there are many people here for them.

I was going to mention this at the meeting but might as well do it here for those that can't make it. We are setting up a memorial fund to help with arrangements and any profits are going to a charity, Kris Wheeler has the details, I'll post it up when it's ready.
Also we need a hand on Sunday, we are going to be moving his personal stuff from the house he was renting into storage. I already have a truck booked but we'll need hands. If anyone can come out, it will be this Sunday, in Mission. Call me to get an address 604.803.3506.
We are going to be doing a memorial but the date has not been figured out yet.

Sad too hear, I never talked to him but had seen him around and got a good natured vibe from him....how did he die so young?
