s10 drive shaft question

i have a buddy who is haveing issues with his driveshaft in a 03 extended cab 2wd s10. im a toyota gut and dont have any experience with this rig. what is the type of ds in it ( 2pc or 3pc) are they rebuildable or do we need to find new one. also i have heard that a new one runs near $700 im not understanding something here. ive never paid more that $350 for a custom shaft. any info to help resolve this would be great.

i am new to this site but i had the exact same problem.
sometimes the driveshaft makes some noises . its the u-joints . i think the shaft has like 5 u-joints . i know its retarded.
the cheap ass plastic wears out. its like a $20 part. i learned the hard way and brought it in it cost me $480 replaced and balanced. on an 02 -chevy s-10 with 134000kms for sale now for 4500 saftied and e-tested.
