Anybody know if those roof top RV air conditioner units are 12v?

Anybody ever thought about cutting a hole in the roof of a cruiser and slapping one of those bad boys in?

I thought of it as a joke and then I thought it was actually a cool (get it "cool":grinpimp: ) idea.

If it could run of an aux. battery you could sleep in comfort all year round. I would cut a hole in my roof for that.

I acquired a roof mount A/C system 10 or 15 years ago. Not sure what it was off of. It ran from the freon hoses of the engine. The fan ran off 12VDC. Never got it hooked up and sold it to a farmer to put on his tractor.

Most RV A/C's run on 120 VAC. Never seen one that runs on 12VDC.

Yep, they're 120V. The only thing similar that I have seen in 12V is a swamp cooler (evaporative cooler) and I haven't seen one of those in a long time.

They are still available. In desert areas they are the sh**s. In high humidity areas they suck. My next RV will have an evaporative (swamp) cooler instead of an AC unit. Who wants to listen to a generator in Death Valley? You can run a swamp cooler all day with a couple of hours charge time on the batteries.
