Thank you. We may speak later. I’m looking at as many options as I can. And yes, they charge by the job, not the hour. And they say it will take so long to fix that they will lose revenue on this job. It’s a busy shop and I get it.
Interesting, each job(99% of the time) has a labor time for it. They wouldn't lose revenue if they charged the labor time plus actual time for the bolt extraction(s) ! ..... sounds fishy to me, but that's their business!

$7K is a "I don't want to do it price" :). With labor shortages etc these days, you'll find quite a few business giving pricing like that.

I tackled my own valve cover job. On the PS side, I snapped one bolt, but said **** it and left the broken stud in place. Does not leak. On the DS side, I decided not to mess with it and took it to a local reputable shop. They told me they snapped 3 bolts and had to drill them out and insert new thread inserts. Charged me 1150 for labor. Granted, the ones that snapped are in the middle and closer to the front bumper, not the trickier ones that are by the firewall.
For reference.

Thanks! That gives me a

n idea about how much I could expect to pay for a job like this. Thought about trying it myself, but I don’t have the location or tools or knowledge to do it. Even though pretty much everything is available on YouTube now
