Hi All,

I have some rust on my 97 LC. It is not too bad a little on the engine block, various bolts, but the bottom of the truck is what concerns me. The catylic converter brace completely rusted off and the bolts that seem to hold the body to the frame have a bit of rust.

I wan tto spend about $8k on upgrades but at this point I am considering selling it and finding a rust free 96 or 97 LC

Thanks,

Post some pictures if you want some real-world insight. My LC has some minor rust but nothing that concerns me. The main concern would be the frame and those mounting bolts.

Thanks BLZRFN will do.

If the mounting bolts are rusted, what are the consequences and is there any way to remedy this issue if they are not completely rusted?

thanks,

I have rust issues also. I am not sure of the extent. I'll take some pictures. Where should i post them?

Unless the metal is bubbling or flaking because of the rust, you don't need to sweat it much.

You want rust- I can show you rust. My hitch rusted completly through the .25" plate steel. There was nothing left on the wings of the hitch.

Unfortunately there are places where is is flaking and bubbling... Is there some sort of under coating i could use to stop/remove the rusting???

I've given up on mine- but others have had good luck with a product called POR-15 (Paint Over Rust )

You need to get as much of the bad rust off as possiable though... which involves grinding/ scraping.

x2 for POR-15, great product.

I haven't used it on my LC, but older 60-70's cars I have with good results. There is a another product in a spray can I have used as well. I can't remember the name, but again get all the rust out you can and spray it on. It will spray what appears to be a clear coat, but after drying on clean metal it will turn black, then primer over it.
