Ok, this is somewhat of a loaded question but here goes. How much rust is too much rust when looking to buy a BJ/FJ40/42 Hardtop? When should i turn around and walk away when dealing with rust, because it just isn't worthwile to repair.
I ask this as i travelled over 2000kms to inspect a BJ42 that had bubbled paint (A sure sign of rust) located on the rocker panels (both passenger and driver sides), the bonnet (hood) under the hooks that hold the windscreen inplace when dropped down, rear right hand ambo door whos hinge wanted to go through the door whenever it was opened, all 4 pillars (1 each next to the driver, passanger and the 2 back ones that hold the ambo doors in place) which were rusted through. Also, paint bubbles where the bonnet bolts onto the body under the front windshield, completely stuffed rain guttering etc. Also finally non existent metal under the front grill, which was simply rust held together by paint.
So again i ask how much rust is too much rust?
