The story.

Ordered the cover and when it arrived I had some fit issues. The mounting holes needed to be enlarged so the hardware would fit and my ring gear (thick 37 tooth) made contact with the cover (near the flange).

I was told they shipped a cover that hadnt made it all the way down the assembly line and they sent me a new one which fit great. They also let me to keep the old one and thats what Im getting rid of.

As it sits now the mounting holes have been enlarged and the cover should fit thirds with the thinner ring gear. If you have a thick ring I can mod the cover to fit (not really a mod, Id just do what they forgot to do). Youd also need hardware to mount it. This would require you to either remove all of the studs from your housing and replace them w bolts or just remove 4 studs and replace them with long bolts (the cover uses 4 long bolts, 2 on each side due to its design).

Body of the cover is 1/4" plate and the lip is 3/8" machined flat. Its painted and cleared in a beautiful lc spring green but has sustained a few nicks here and there.

Retails for 149, special mud price 75$ obo plus shipping. Ill snap a few pics later today.

I have the same cover, the first cover I got also hit the ring gear close to the flange. What are you going do to make the cover work? I would like to do the same to the one I have so a friend can have it for his rig.

Thanks, MWB

Just shave down the inside welds at the ring reliefs. If you havent contacted rs about the issue do so and theyll send you one that fits (they grid the reliefs out a bit). Theyve got pretty damn good customer service.

Trade pending.

Yes RS is #1 in my book, I did contact them back in the summer and in two days I had a new cover. Bought all my stuff for my SOA from RS and every piece is heavy duty! Trail tested!

I just got one...how much additional fluid does it hold? I called rough stuff and they no longer make them...and they couldn't even tell me how much more fluid it holds. I know I'm not supposed to fill it to the lip of the fill plug because it is so much higher than the OEM one.

It depends…. You will have to do some measuring on your own, is your vehicle stock, or sprung over. That said you need to lubricate your pinion bearings. With your stock cover measure a horizontal/level line from your pinion center to the rear cover. That’s your fill point.

That's the thing...sprung over, pinions rotated appropriately. Pinion center is no longer be reflective of truly horizontal orientation. I was thinking simply filling the front diff with a stock cover to the recommended 2.6 quarts, and then measuring from the surface of the gear oil to the base of the axle tube and then matching that in the rear. No easy way to do it...and in addition with 529 gears and lockers the volume has changed so I'm sure that'll impact fill level as well. I know I'm probably overthinking this, but I don't want to burn anything up or aerate the oil.
