I know this is the FJ25 section - but you guys always know so much about the early FJ40s.
I have a '66 FJ40 and have dismantled both steps. The rubber, of course, dried years ago. After I get the metal blasted and painted, I need to replace the rubber.
I had planned on just searching for some rubber mats with as close the thickness and tread pattern as possible. Then cut the mats to size.

Has anyone been through this process? Maybe found rubber that matches?

The picture is, of course, of the underside of the step. It isn't a picture of the original rubber - but I always like to include pictures.

Did some of the FST have Footman Loops and some not? I didn't notice the absence of footman loops until Dusty pointed it out. The tail gate has them. My FST has them on the tub as well as the tail gate.

Here are some pics of my rig, including the rubber that came off my rig.

I don't know if this rubber is original or not. The ridges don't seem to match up with either metric or standard measurements.

This is a good question. Early years had footman loops on soft top models. Sometime around 66 The hard top modesl were made to use the soft top too. I think around this time the footman loops were dropped in favor of twists. Then in 72-74 both hard top and soft top models had footman loops in the corners. After that I'm not sure. Most models after 74 were hard tops with the soft top model being dropped in the US after 77.
