sorry... I would search but on my phone.

96 80... won't start. no turn over, no clicking, nothing... batt good, pwr every where else. fuses in cab and out look good. moved shifter L to P a couple times... still no start. thoughts?

ok so it magically started after sitting for 20 min... thoughts?

I was having the same problem. Nothing would happen when it was at operating temp, but after waiting for it to cool down for a while it would start up fine. I did some work with a multimeter and found that the black/red wire the runs from the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) over the transmission to the starter solenoid had a lot of resistance when hot so it wouldn't supply enough juice to trigger the starter. After cooling for a while it would pass voltage fine.

The starter circuit is pretty easy to troubleshoot with a multimeter and some patience. Having a remote start fob was really handy too for going it alone. If not, a volunteer to turn the key. The hardest part can be making the problem happen so you can troubleshoot it :D

What did your fix end up being?

Determined how?

By far the most likely culprit to an out of the blue "no start" is a bad battery or bad battery terminal connections.

Curtis

All other elect. items on my truck working properly, Scanguage connected and read proper voltage, removed/reconnected terminals to reset ECU.

I've had batteries with a bad cell that would start most of the time but every once in a while wouldn't. I took it to Autozone to get it checked and had it replaced. No more problems.

I am feeling like what 96r50 was saying is most likely the case... I basically ruled out everything in the electrical system and figured it must be a failure on the A/T shifter. The starter wasn't even attempting to turn... just silent like a safety lock was still in place.

That was about how long it took my '94 to start. Once I reached operating temperature and turned off vehicle, it would take 15 to 20 minutes to get it to start again (all dash lights would light up, just no start).

I changed out the starter with an remanufactured OEM and have not had any problems for about 5 weeks.

Check everything that others have listed first. At $200 to $250 for a reman. OEM starter, you can save some money finding the source. My wife was just calling me 5 times a day reminding me that the LC would not start and I just rolled the dice the expense would be worth it.

Not so much a permanent fix, but my results and future contingency plan:

I unplugged the connector from the NSS and passed the wire harness across the top of the transmission. This gave me more slack to work with. I pulled the black/red wire out of the loom as far as I could and checked it out. Nothing was visually wrong with it (obviously not a real determining factor about wire condition) so I put it back in and routed it back across the transmission, keeping it up off the tranny case (it's resting on the tranny cooler lines now). That is all it took to get rid of my problem. I know, not a real fix, but I like it. For me, wiring =

Granted, it is winter here now, so the problem might start happening this summer when it's warmer. If it does I plan on replacing that black/red wire from the NSS to the starter solenoid. I have the part numbers for the NSS connector and associated wire splices (courtesy of TOY350 and Cdan in another thread), and eventually I'll get the 5 digit number off the connector that attaches to the starter and hope Cdan can work his magic and get a part number for it :D Then I'll replace that wire.

NSS connector: 90980-11332
8 small splices: 82998-12440
2 large splices: 82998-12480
