What is better Power steering or ATF?

I was planning to do this soon and picked up some syntheic PS fluid and now I'm wondering if I should just use ATF (like Valvoline that I put in the tranny) instead
Maybe they are pretty close to the same thing, just packaged differently?
That is my understanding. There are probably some slight differences, but there are probably slight differences between ATF fluids from different suppliers. ATF has always been accepted as power steering fluid by mechanics I've known. There are different types of ATF though, I don't believe the Ford type is used as PS fluid, and Hondas require their own special PS fluid, which I've heard is mineral oil.
