You are clearly a skilled fabricator.
I would say that you have too much spare time but I understand that's not a problem when you enjoy what you're doing!
Keep us posted.
Thank you very much. I’m truly an amateur trying my best and learning along the way. Looking forward to getting this back on the road (and trail) and helping a few friends with their armor builds.
Nice to see the 100 going to this level. My only thought would be to cut out the rocker panels and mount the sliders higher. Not necessarily make body mounted sliders but if frame mounted sliders, at least clearancing the rocker panels. You'll gain 2-3" of clearance.

Hadn’t seen this before. I’ll rock it as is for a bit and see how it goes. Thanks for link.
Ok I’ll follow. This is a fun one
Appreciated 👍🏻
Dang man nice build, this looks great

I feel like at this point you should entertain chopping the rear half off and converting to a truck bed since that sort of follows your initial intentions ;)

A few of my friends said that also. I have a few ideas for what’s going to happen up there.
Sick bender skills!
Thank you.

I should have more to post up soon. I’m waiting for a few items to arrive and a couple more to come back from powder coating.

Almost as soon as I started working on this project, I received a delivery:

Lots of cutting, grinding, and hacking got this down to just what I needed.

Yes, it drove just fine like this and proved you can do just as much with less.

It also left enough for my friends with 80’s to scavenge what they needed.

January 2026:
I had multiple options on how to attempt the SAS, but decided the hardest part was just converting the vehicle to solid axle, and I could modify and adjust latter if necessary. I contacted Jason at Trail Tailor about his kit and to see if he had any left. He said he had one kit left to assemble and I was able to secure that for myself.

Jason’s work and measurements helped quite a bit to get this job going. I wouldn’t say it’s a complete kit by any means, but it’ll get you started for sure and save you a bunch of time a guessing. After cleaning and clearing the frame up, it was time to weld in some brackets.

Radius arm mounts (I boxed the upper portion)

Spring/shock, panhard bar mount, and added steering box reinforcement plate

Added in a crossmember with steering box reinforcement plates on inside frame rail also

And then I was finally able to have it rest on its own weight on the solid axle for the first time

February 2026:
Since the 100 rear axle is wider, I went with 6 lug to 5 lug adapters for the front. This added 2” spacing and brought the wheels out to better match the 100 rear axle width. I had to do some trimming and shaving of the adapters to get them to work though.

Then it was time to test fit the 37’s with the five lug wheels and 4” springs.

Because I added a plate for the steering box, it moved it 1/4” closer to the back of the spring tower. I had to cut a notch out and weld a plate back in to give it a bit more clearance.

Also, had to cut out the diff mount and plate the lower sections of motor mounts.

Now I had to come up with a steering shaft. I chopped an 80 series shaft down to about 12.5” and because of how close it was to hitting the back of the spring/shock tower (because I reinforced and spaced the steering gear out), I had to get creative. Chopped, shaved, & sleeved.

I also welded the spring mounts to the axle

And then I had to make a decision. If I had a later year 100 series with 4.10 gears, I could have thrown the front 80 axle on and been fine. Because I have a 98 with 4.30 gears, I could either swap the rear out for a 4.10 or send them both out for a gear swap. Since the donor 80 was triple locked (that’s why I had to get it) I sent the front and rear center sections to Cruiser Outfitters for a 5.29 gear swap. I also sent out the transfer case for a crawler gear install, as I’ve had this with my 4.88’s in my CamoTeq 470 and liked that setup quite a bit. Because I had to stop, disassemble, and ship out for rebuild, this was another pause in the project for a bit.
