Now a little history.....................
I daily drive an '89 extended cab and didnt want to continue beating on it. So I started looking for a dedicated trail rig in late 2007. A good friend of mine knew someone selling the truck and asked if I was interested. Of course I was, so he took me to meet the guy and talk more about the truck. I found out he was wanting to sell the truck to fund another project he had going. After a little bit of wheeling and dealing, found he need a winch for his J--P project. I was working as a truck accessory installer at a local truck accessory store and was able to buy a display model 9.5ti with no fairlead or remote for $400. Traded the winch for the truck and wheeled it for several months until exploding the front R & P. Naturally I did not want to replace the IFS gears, so I traded a '73 VW bug for an '85 4runner donor. In Sept. '08, pulled it in the shop, put on the lift and began cutting away unneeded iron from the frame. I then turned my attention to the solid axle, stripping it of all unneeded brackets, blasting, priming, painting it. I installed new third member with 5:29 gear set. After the completing the SAS, I went to the SE4 RJ-6 and met Brian Drawhorn from WABFAB Offroad. I started helping out at his shop and was able to use his equipment and shop space for the rest of my mods, including the exo and purchasing all my parts. In the three years Ive had this truck I have yet been able to come up with a name for it, so I continue to call it Project '87. As most of you know, a project is never done. Ill include a few pics from the day I brought the truck home to its current condition.
