I still love this 4Runner, if nothing more that what I got to see of it in Oregon. So much power with that setup. :steer:

How about some shots of the Runner in what's now your undeveloped driveway or property? :hillbilly:

Then later down the road, in front of the framing, then the completed house?

Just a thought. :D

I was gonna run down this weekend to start digging/pulling out stumps (+ I have some overload leaves & a set of shackles to get rid of), but something came up and I can't leave the area. So it looks like I'm fixing the backhoe and tinkering with the 4runner some more this weekend. I got the backhoe's engine running good enough that I can start thinking about getting a hydraulic pump and engine adapter for it - then it'll be ready for work :D

BTW, the other toy I've been playing with lately Dig-It self propelled towable backhoe . . .
how kick-a$$ is it to have a back hoe on the rear bumper of the 4runner? Rock stacking, nah, not me :hillbilly:

new shoes - 33x10.5x15 BFG KM2's on 8" wide black steelies with 4.5" backspacing + took off the dumpy looking JCWhitney universal rubber flares since the tires are inside the wheel wells again. I still don't have any lift on the front and don't plan on any, I do have a 1" body lift - I might have to tap the body seam at the rear of the front wheel wells a bit, but it doesn't have to get hammered flat. The rears fit fine after I bent the mudflap brackets a bit to angle them rearward.

initial driving impressions on road:
- I can break the rear loose exiting a tight corner once again in 1st or 2nd (2nd gear only does it if I'm in the power band).
- definately a bit "looser" mid-turn through the twisties than my well worn 32x11.5 BFG A/T's w/ 3.5" backspacing, but I kinda expected that. I'm hoping they'll stick just a tad better once the new tire smell is gone and they get scuffed in
- I'm pleasantly surprised with the level of road noise - I can only hear them if I'm off the throttle, and even then it's minimal

just picked up a 4.88 front diff . . . . in a few weeks, hopefully, I'll have a set of Yukon gears and solid pinion spacer for the e-locker rear that's been gathering dust :D

Needs a basket system, and I just so happen to know of a friend of yours selling one. Great price, shipped to your door ( ;) or RV) Link's in the sig.

Yes, I would actually ship to you b/c I know I can hunt you down. :D

Better yet, pay me enough and I'll drive it out myself. I'll call the thread about the trip "F-This, I'm going to Keith's place!"

What are the odds, I was looking at buying a used one just like that last year - even had a guy willing to drive it up to Oregon when I was passing through ;)

I am tempted, but right now I have too much else going on: backhoe, elocker + regear, bills, etc. Good luck on the sale though anyway (sold my rims just over 1 hour after listing them today, but that's my Yukon Gear money :D)

another minor project this weekend that I've been meaning to do for awhile - gotta love Roger Brown (4crawler.com). I always find something minor that I haven't done yet, but suddenly can't live without on his site.

Relocated the OH-SH*T handle from the driver rear to the front (threaded holes are already there from factory) so I can use it to hop in easier & mounted my 3D cell MagLight where the handle used to be

last day for me, and I don't have any updates on the Toyota - I got a 4.88 front diff, waiting to buy gears for the elocker 3rd that I have - so I thought I'd post an update on my mini-backhoe instead :hillbilly:

got a bit more work done on it in the last few weeks - engine runs great, just needed to be blasted out with some carb cleaner and have the low speed jet cleaned. I also poured SeaFoam down the carb while cranking until it hydrolocked (low speed crank = no damage, don't try this at home) and let it sit for an hour so it could seep into the rings and free them up nicely (no more exhaust smoke :D) then I blew it all out the tailpipe. found a front shroud on ebay for $10, and got the governor linkages all reassembled and adjusted. installed the hydraulic pump yesterday and decided to finish up the exhaust today. here's the 2-1 collector I made for the header out of a piece of 2" i.d. reducer with some 1 5/8" universal flex pipe to the muffler
100_5157.jpg

my roomie couldn't get rid of this CBR muffler for $5 so he donated it to my cause, just had to weld one 1/4" tab onto the reservoir so I could bolt my muffler on to that
100_5158.jpg

I was thinking of running it like a stack with one of those little flapper valves on the top to keep water out, but that would've put the exhaust pipe too close to the rubber suction hose for the pump

front crossmember plating

nice always a work in progress.

definately - - next weekend I'm gonna get a steering stabilizer back into the beast. this was today's work:

I don't want to lift the front of my 'runner any more than it already is, but last trip out I found that I kept bashing the front crossmember and it got dented up fairly well.. I consider skid plates to be "consumables" when offroad, so I'm not worried that the front skid also got a bit thrashed.
So this is the shape of my reinforcement. You can see the score lines where I was going to bent it to wrap around and under
100_5267.jpg

I cut the top off so it would conform better to the front crossmember
100_5268.jpg

all done :D 1/4" steel to help guard my front crossmember
100_5270.jpg

the next part of this will be a skid extending from the front crossmember to the one I made tying the lower-rear control arms together. This way, any hits I take to the front will be spread out a bit - I try not to slam around that hard anyway

Skid looks good. Mine is beat up pretty bad after the last trip to Rausch, Yellow Jacket really did a number on it with the 3rd gear double low launches to get over the first ledge. I am considering that crossmember disposable at this point since I have the SAS ready to go in December :D

LOOKS, SOLID! :D

Keep up the nice work, happy wheeling and have a Great Turkey Day man!
Loggin out for a few to take care of this family thang,yo. ;)

Part of my engine swap had me remove the steering stabilizer since it would interfere with the oil pan. I recently picked one up at a junkyard in the hopes that it'll cure a slight vibration/wobble that I have when turning at higher speeds. A few days thinking about it and I figured out what I needed to do.

Here's my bracket for the frame side attachment using 2 driver side front cross member bolts
100_5320.jpg

I borrowed this idea from the universal fit steering stabilizers - 1" exhuast clamps from NAPA work perfect with a piece of 1/8" flat stock between them
100_5323.jpg

ready for install - this stabilizer doesn't have any brand names on it, but I'm pretty sure it's not OEM. I liked how wide the body of it is (compared to the thin OEM ones), so I plucked it out of a mid 90's Limited 4runner
100_5322.jpg

installed and ready for testing on some high speed fireroads - the stock bolts were long enough once I ditched the washers that were on them
