Silicone:

I think I may try a nice bead of UV resistant silicone or maybe polysulfide on the bottom of the 'pads' and let it dry to form a gasket. You can't get a decent bond to the painted surface anyway. I may even get some epoxy to build a little ridge on the inside of the pads so I can make a bigger 'gasket'.

I HATE crap that isn't engineered well!
 
I am in the process trying this.

I went to Ace Hardware and found a black laminate floor replacment tile. It's 12"x"12 with an adhesive back to it. It's only a little over a 1/16" thick. It should be flexible enough to contour to the body and it's adhesive. I can't see the pad wearing through a tile like that very soon.

I am going to cut each piece about an 1/8" larger than the pad.
