I didn't have a helper, but that's close. The exact width is probably a metric number, so you may need a more exacting measurement depending on what you're doing.

It varies. If your building a rack, make sure you make your brackets slightly adjustable, both for height and width.

I measured from as close as I could get to the centerline of the plastic on each side. From gutter to gutter would be a little less.
Some racks use the gutter itself, with a continuous bearing surface that sits in it, with clamps holding the rack in place but with the rack's weight spread more evenly over the entire gutter. Then that dimension becomes the ruling one for proper fit.

I know this is a very old post, but were these measurements to the inside edge of the gutter vertical lip (outermost portion of the gutter "U")? Thanks!if it's for a roof rack here are the measurements from my rack...
