Okay a few days ago I decided to make a roof mount for a 42" LED light bar that I had.
Well first if your like me I will not drill or cut or do anything else that degrades the old Land Cruiser, if anything I will try to use what is available and engineer from that and here's what I came up with, and it works perfectly.
On this 1982 I have two front roof 6mm bolts that hold the roof to the windshield located under the front lip of the roof. That's were I focused and came up with this mount. I cut out of cardboard a template that is the main item in the mount build, it is designed to clear the front of the rain gutter at an angle to keep the top of the mount flat with the roof and keeping clearance form any part of the roof itself and giving ample strength. The pictures tell the story. Used 1/4 angle and some old steel rods for stiffener's and in this case for this light bar with four mount legs, I cut four mount pads. The welds are not the best as this was a prototype and honestly did not expect it to turn out so well. Each light bar will of course have a differences
in mounting but this can accommodate as a platform most any light bar. I saw some on the web that look very unpleasant for the personality of the FJ's making some look like they belong in the next Death Races movie. Top me this keeps it clean to a point and easy to install and remove. Also it is solid, no wobbling, or vibrating, and so far no real noise when driving.
So just passing this on to you folks that have been contemplating installing a roof mount LED bar for better coverage without beating up the old gal.
Have fun
