So, I've read a lot through search about roof repair/swapping roofs. Has anyone tried to create a fiberglass top to be used with the 55? I'm thinking of possibly creating something like with the help of my brother (he shapes surfboards). It could be modeled after the fj40 top with a metal frame/bracket attached to the windshield frame/rear section and the fiberglass top layed down on that. Has anyone tried or seen something similar to this? Is it even possible?

I cut my roof off right behind the rear seats. I plan on using the discarded area for a future camper top. My rear is bobbed too so blending the top & getting the side glass cut & find the right weatherstripping will be a long process but doable ;p

Like Clemson55 says, anything is possible. I swapped out a rusty roof for a good one.

Apparently, the PO had already started on mine as the whole circumference of mine has already been fiberglassed. Thinking about use the roof itself as a template and support for the fiberglass roof.

I suppose you could whack off your existing roof and use it to buck up a mold for a fiberglass one. To me, with the cost of resins etc and the work involved floating/working out a mold....it would be cheaper to just weld in some new sheet metal or find a donor pig and cut off it's roof.

I have replaced one roof by drilling out all of the spot welds and reaplacing it with a new used roof. I have to do another roof on a different cruiser in the future and I already have a clean doner roof. I plan on dooing the spot weld cutting again. I have thought for a long time that it would be a good idea to make a fiberglass mold and make a complete roof. I wonder if there would be enough interest in a fiberglass roof replacement? I bet that it would cost close to 1K to fabricate one and build it correctly.
