Hello,

First off I really appreciate all the community support on here...I have found so much great info for my 85 4Runner and 77 FJ55...

So, I was attempting a hill climb in my 85 4Runner (22RE EFI) when it bogged down and stalled...the brakes didn't stop me from rolling/sliding back so I kept the clutch out to engine brake safely down...

I wasn't fast enough to slip it into reverse so I assume the engine rotated backwards...but did seem to build compression and provided engine braking...we got down ok/safe...

After trying to start it again it wouldn't stay running...after some troubleshooting it seemed to run better if I held the gate on the Air Flow Meter fully open...but it immediately died if I applied any gas...

I ran it in gear ad idle to get back to my truck and trailer and it ran a bit stronger on the way...after about 30 minutes of crawling at idle it started accepting a little gas and eventually seemed normal...

What do you think happened?

Could it be as simple as rotating in the opposite direction pushed fuel and oil back out through the intake flooding the intake?

It seems to be ok now but I have no explanation for what happened and how it was acting...

cheers,

bad fuel pump relay...the hill climb was a coincidence...which suggests that rolling backwards in a forward gear didn't cause any problems...so that's nice
