Like many on here, a couple of my cruisers sit for an extended period of time not being driven daily. Yesterday while out on the trail in my FZJ80 I noticed a strong plastic burning smell…. Pop the hood and sure as s*** my wiring harness pig tail leading to my ABS module was on fire! Long story short we put it out and I cut back the harness and continued down the trail. Upon further investigation it appeared some mice had chewed up the harness and while bouncing down the trail two exposed wires arced. With all this being said and rodents being prevalent in AZ ……what solutions have you guys had success with keeping these boogers out of your vehicles? Lights under engine bay? Pepper mint oil? .22lr sub sonics? PS ALWAYS KEEP A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN YOUE TRUCK!

I see lots of people here in PHXAZ leaving their hoods open when a vehicle is parked for an extended period of time. My parents 80 had rodent poo and evidence of chewing all over it. Their Subaru had the same complete with storage of food in compartments. They ate through the fuel sender wires and shutdown the whole fuel management system. Yes .. they are a problem. I keep most of my cars in my garage where one of my cats live.

I tried moth balls. It didn't work.

Here is my thread on matter: moth balls don't work

Since that time I been keeping my hood up. But that makes me nervous when windstorms come around. I am always afraid that I will forget about it and the wind will catch and bend the hood.

There are a bunch of ultrasonic pest repel things on amazon, but I don't know if they really work

Few feral cats around my house in the valley. Make sure I have clean water and some hard food to keep them around. Been reports of roof rats in the area but not around my house. Home up north everything is kept in a garage. I have a cup of bird feed in the garage to be sure there are no rodents getting in.
