So my girls and I are taking a family road trip...

from:14827 penny Ln. Plattsmouth, NE 68048 to:25216 Ben Reifel Rd Interior, SD 57750 (Badlands National Park: Headquarters) to:Mt Rushmore National Memorial to:Yellowstone National Park to:Jenny lake grand teton park wy to:rexburg id to:US-20 S/WY-78

leaving the 21st of May and gonna be home around the 6th of June give or take a day at the end depending on weather.

Any got suggestions or Ideas of cools stops along the route?

Badlands and Mt Rushmore are gonna be quick 1 day each deals cuz they are an easy 4 day weekend trip for us.

Looking at 3~5 days in Yellowstone 2~3 days in Grand Tetons 4 days of family in Rexburg Id. Then a trip home along the southern path... Stop and see Carhenge... and ???

Not taking the cruiser (sorry) Jetta wagon TDI with a roof top box and a bike rack in the hitch.

IDEAS??

Dan

Ever been to Yellowstone before? If not I can hedge a bet that you will be stealing some of those days away from the Tetons just so you have more time in Yellowstone.

fair enough! I forgot to mention we are tent camping it all the way... dutch oven cooking and sleeping bags... bug spray and no showers... (baby wipes are your friend) should be a blast!

Make sure you go over Beartooth pass (south from Red Lodge Mt), one of the coolest roads I've been on.

While in Yellowstone be sure to prepare for a surprise snow storm. Happens all the time. Grolar went last year at the same time and they got hit with 4 ft over the weekend!!

Yes Beartooth pass is on the List of things to do... but we are a bit concerned about it possibly being closed still. I guess we'll see when we get there.

Shoot me a pm before you get close, I've got a buddy that lives in Red Lodge. They have been hit with alot of late snow storms but it looks like things are starting to thaw out.

Have a great trip, keep us posted, and be safe!

Dan, just in case you'll pop in to see this, just talked to my buddy Chuck...

He says the pass is open (normally it's not till the first of June).

Have a great trip! I'm jelous! and post up some pics when you get a chance.

Cody has an excellent western museum.

On Yellowstone. YNet Forums • Index page has some good info on where people are seeing wildlife.

X2 on the Cody museums, better plan on a day there..;) Hit it on fourth of July, with the rodeo and fireworks, plan on 2 to 3 days..:D. And if you have a wife along who likes to shop, make it a week.

if you do come on to see this make sure you go see chief crazy horse in sd it is alot more interesting then mount rushmore.

agree we did not plan to go there but when we saw it we ended up camping there for 3 days, we where fascinated by it's history. we visited mount rushmore also.

Ok so we made it home... It was an awesome trip! Saw almost every type of wildlife available except Mountain lion and Mountain goat. Got to watch a coyote chase a lone wolf for 2.5 miles up the Lamar valley in yellowstone. (yes this happened we were with a couple of wolf association folks who knew which wolf it was, his name escapes me now). Made it up to the top of Beartooth pass, watched a couple of hike in snowboarders carve their way down. In Rexburg my wife got her bike ride cut short by a rather large moose! We rented a bike and a pull behind trailer for the kids in the Tetons and then had it rain for 2 days...

ahh more to come i got cleanup to do
