I kept an electric fuel pump plumbed in with a quick connector so I could just hook up a wire and was good to go.

They fail that often?
I've done away with the mechanical and just dumped in an electric before--is that a better route?
Who knows, I might pick up .000023 MPG from the parasitic power loss.....

No they shouldn't go out. I would replace with an OEM mechanical pump. I don't think it would hurt to put an electric pump, and a fuel pressure regulator in your spares box. Cheap insurance.

OK, it's officially a gremlin. A gremlin named Costco! The replacement to the replacement I just put in failed. Where you might ask? In the parking lot of Costco where I was returning the @#$%$ tools I had to buy when it died last time. I'm going online to get an OEM & I'm going to tell the guys at O'Riley's what they can do with their POS parts!

I have had the same problem with an aftermarket fuel pump. Get an OEM and forget about it.
