Wanted RHD diesel automatic

Hi everyone! I just joined the forum. I'm a rural carrier for usps and need a right hand drive vehicle for work. I'm trying to find an automatic 4x4 with a diesel engine for the gas mileage. Anyone have something for sale? Any help? I'm near Seattle, WA. I've on this forum that maybe there are exceptions for importing rhd for letter carriers. There are a lot of rhd vehicles just a few hours away in Canada. Would really like an old BJ40 or something like that. I've read that the automatics were only made for the US though, so maybe rhd doesn't exist? Thanks in advance for any help.

for what's been sold a lot in canada, you're lookin at an 87 or older (now that 2012 is around the corner) JDM rig. hj61, bj70/71/74, nissan safari..... OR hilux/4runner, terrano/pathfinder OR why not a 4 banger gasser like a corolla, civic, accord, etc....? they'd still be better on fuel. you can even get an allwheel drive corolla or mitsubishi RVR, rhd, auto.

I'm not really mechanically inclined. Can I have a mechanic drop an auto tranny into an older manual diesel? Any suggestions on where to start on figuring out what tranys might work and what it might cost to pay someone to do the switch?
