I have installed a reversing light on the rear of my 75 series ute but it doesn't work.

I located what I believe to be the right cable (red and black) based on the wiring diagram in the manual but its not working.

I'll trace the wire back to make sure it's not broken or loose anywhere but can anyone tell me how putting the car in reverse activates the switch as i was thinking of tracing it from that end too. Any other areas to investigate appreciated I'm obviously not an auto electrician so simple instructions also appreciated :)

These types of issues came mostly in wiring problem and you first check the wiring either current is passing or not then check the bulb. Where have you connected the wiring for current?

Hi Kolin, I haven't connected it for current, I started working back from the rear lights as there was no reversing light at all and when I found a wire the same colour as the manual said it should be I tried it. The bulb and light are new so shouldn't be an issue.

I think I need to borrow a meter and check the current like you suggest. I'm going to get underneath this weekend and check the condition of the switch on the gearbox as well.

did you earth it?

Yeah the screw touches the earth in the light and through the light to the body. I'll know more in the morning when I get a chance to trace the wire and check the switch.

No worries, starting to look like your reverse switch now that i read all of your comments, still an easy fix dude, good luck.
